Academic Experience

The primary purpose of Davidson College is to assist students in developing humane instincts and disciplined and creative minds for lives of leadership and service.
- Clark Ross
Academic Dean

Davidson students explore the liberal arts curriculum in depth, and enjoy close faculty collaboration as they develop the focus for their own research and scholarship. With most faculty living nearby, the college is committed to being a residential campus of about 1700 students, large enough for a diverse and invigorating intellectual engagement, but small enough to foster individual experience and opportunity.

Relationships with such organizations as the Royal Shakespeare Company, summer work and service opportunities across the globe, twelve academic concentrations within the curriculum, and a Center for Interdisciplinary Studies offer the widest possible range of inquiry and endeavor. Students whose academic ambitions range beyond this rich curriculum may apply for funds to support research and travel, and many opportunities exist for summer research positions with Davidson faculty.

At Davidson, students form lifelong connections with one another and with the college faculty and staff, as they grow intellectually and personally in preparation for lives of leadership and service.
