The Itinerary in Review Join eleven other Davidson College alumni for a week of community service, learning, and adventure in Costa Rica, April 26 - May 4, 2003. Our trip offers alumni the chance to partner with local residents to face global issues and become part of sustainable solutions, in a country known for its beautiful, government-protected rainforests, beaches, and mountains. Our partner in travel, Cross Cultural Solutions, has won international aclaim for its vital humanitarian service projects, which are based on the belief that locals know best what their communities need. The Davidson team will help women's groups develop skills to improve their economic situation, work with children in rural schools and centers for special education, and promote awareness of health and hygiene. No special skills are required, although we suggest that alumni be in reasonable physical condition. Evenings will be free for personal activities, lectures, Spanish lessons, or outings to local hot springs, hiking trails, and waterfalls. Volunteers will live together in rooms of two to four in a comfortable house in historic Ciudad Quesada. Facilities include standard beds, linens, flush toilets, running water, and electricity. Amenities include a local guide, security on premises, and a local cook to prepare three group meals a day.
