Presidential Trip to Edinburgh, Scotland

 (August 7-15, 2006)

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to explore Scotland and celebrate the theatrical talent of Davidson students. Ruth Anne and President Bobby Vagt ’69 will host this cultural trip to Edinburgh, Scotland that combines seeing some of Scotland’s most historic landmarks with the phenomenal experience of being in Scotland during two of its largest festivals, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August 6 -28), in which Davidson students will be performing, and the Edinburgh International Festival (August 13 -26).

During your visit, you’ll stay in a beautiful room with a view of Edinburgh Castle in the deluxe Caledonian Hotel centrally located on Princes Street. From the Caledonian, day trips will take you to St. Andrews, Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott and the 15th century ruins of Melrose Abbey, Floors Castle, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe, and a visit to the family home of the Earls of Strathmore, Glamis Castle. Unique day trips will be juxtaposed with a tour of Edinburgh’s highlights including the Royal mile, Edinburgh Castle, and Holyrood Castle and ample free time will be provided for you to explore the city and take part in the festivals.

To make the trip even more exceptional, select Davidson professors will provide a diverse range of lectures and guided tours, ranging from theatre reviews to museum tours, making this trip distinctively Davidson. Students will also make the trip memorable as travelers will be able to attend one or more of their Shakespearean performances and watch as students perform street theatre to promote their performance.

With a fantastic itinerary, this trip combines the cultural with the historical for an unforgettable tour of a beautiful part of the world.
