Friends of the Arts is committed to increasing opportunities in our community for all citizens to enjoy dance, music, art, and theater.
The generosity of our members enables us to: - sponsor an outreach program that brings school children to the college for gallery exhibits, and open rehearsals
- take cultural arts events into local schools, and provide theatre and music programs at the Pines Retirement Community
This year, Friends of the Arts has assisted in bringing Grammy award-winning countertenor Ian Howell to the Children's Community School, as well as performers from the Davidson College Artist Series to Davidson Elementary School. Friends of the Arts also collaborates with other Charlotte arts presenters to bring performers for outreach opportunities at Davidson College. Outreach events in 2007-08 include a collaboration on October 11 with the North Carolina Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts to bring the Ballet Folklórico de México to campus for a lecture/demonstration. On January 8, Friends of the Arts will partner with the Levine Musuem of the New South, cosponsoring a discussion of Southern Foodways with Kathleen Purvis of the Charlotte Observer. For more information on outreach opportunities with Friends of the Arts, please contact Kate Minogue, Assistant Director, at 704-894-2408 or kaminogue@davidson.edu.
