Harvery Linton Wray '62
(Year Awarded--2006)

Harvey Linton Wray arrived in Davidson in the fall of 1958 and quickly began making his mark in the Davidson community, as a member of the track and wrestling teams, as well as in ROTC. Majoring in pre-medicine, Linton demonstrated his leadership and academic ability through leadership positions in Gamma Sigma Epsilon, the national chemistry fraternity; serving as secretary of Scabbard and Blade, the national honorary military fraternity; acting as secretary for Sigma Delta Psi, the national honorary athletic fraternity; and serving as vice-president of Kappa Sigma, a social fraternity. Linton was also honored as a Distinguished Military Student, serving as Cadet Corps Commander of the Davidson ROTC. Linton graduated as a commissioned officer in the army and his achievement as a student was recognized through membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.

Upon graduation, Linton attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he earned his M.D. After completing a residency in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and a fellowship in metabolism in St. Louis, Linton and his wife, Punch, settled in the Washington, D.C., area, where he has made his career. Linton spent much of his career at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, leading its research program. Linton currently holds the position of Medical Director for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in Washington, D.C.

Over the years, Linton has remained a loyal alumnus and consistent supporter of Davidson College by being a consistent supporter of Davidson College, serving on various reunion committees and being a dedicated volunteer. Most notably, he served for over 20 years as a class chair for the Annual Fund, increasing the participation and the amount given for the Class of 1962. In 2002, the Class of 1962 had a record-breaking performance for the Annual Fund and much of that success can be credited to Linton’s leadership.

For your personal and professional accomplishments; for your devotion to the Davidson community; and most of all for your exceptional leadership and service to alma mater, the Davidson College Alumni Association proudly honors you with the Alumni Service Award on the occasion of your 45th reunion, April 29, 2006.
