Leslie Hathaway McIver, Jr. '86 (Year Awarded--2006) The Alumni Service Award recognizes alumni who have rendered the highest level of service to Davidson College. Without question, the love for and commitment to Davidson shown by Leslie Hathaway McIver reflects and defines this standard. Leslie once articulated his “strong desire to see Davidson remain a highly respected institution of higher learning” and his hope that through his own involvement he could help make a difference. Leslie’s history of service and current commitment to Davidson reflect his dedication to these ideals. Leslie has, indeed, made a difference. As a student, Leslie majored in philosophy, was a member of the Black Student Coalition and played on the tennis team during his freshman and sophomore years. Upon his graduation in 1986, Leslie began his exemplary service to Davidson when he spent two years as an intern in the Alumni Relations office. In 1988, he accepted a position as a commercial loan officer with NCNB and has since risen to his current position of vice-president of private banking with Bank of America. Service to his community has been a priority for Leslie. From 2002 to 2005, he served on the board of directors of Charlotte’s Dowd YMCA. A member of the board of directors of the Olde Providence Racquet Club from 2003 to 2005, he is currently serving as a member of its building and finance committee. Service to alma mater has been of paramount importance to Leslie. He has been an involved and consistent volunteer for Davidson. Over the years he has served as an Annual Fund Class Chair, as Class Secretary for the Class of 1986, as a DBAN Executive Committee member, and as a member of the Davidson Athletic Foundation Board. Leslie was a leader in the Charlotte Regional Campaign during the Campaign for Davidson and has served on the organizing committees for his 15th and 20th reunions. One of the highest honors is to be recognized by your peers as a leader. Leslie received this accolade when he was elected by the alumni body to be position of president of the Davidson College Alumni Association. Through his position as president, Leslie served as an ex officio trustee of Davidson, representing the alumni body and helping to determine college policy as a member of the Committee on Campus and Religious Life. Because you have provided a remarkable example of service to Davidson College, to whom you have given so generously of your time, your energy, your resources, and your leadership; because you serve alma mater humbly and with distinction; because your devotion to Davidson sets a high standard for those who follow you; and because Davidson is proud to claim you as her own, the Davidson College Alumni Association honors you, Leslie Hathaway McIver, Jr., with the Alumni Service Award on the occasion of your 20th reunion, this 29th of April, 2006.
