Before he landed on Davidson's storied campus, William Whitaker Webb, Jr. was a star athlete, scholar, and leader at Boyden High School in Salisbury, North Carolina. He continued that tradition of excellence during his four years at Davidson. A pre-med major with all of the rigors and high expectations that accompany this course of study, he was also a standout athlete, playing baseball and football, and earning All Conference football honors and the George King football award. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, the D Club, and ROTC, earning the Distinguished Military Student his senior year. Bill has maintained that legacy of excellence and service throughout his life. Following his graduation from the medical school at the University of North Carolina, Bill returned to his hometown to establish the Salisbury Dermatology Clinic. He immersed himself in building his practice and building his relationships with his community and his alma mater. He has served on community and church boards, and coached his children's youth athletic teams. As an alumnus, Bill has been an enthusiastic booster of Davidson College. He has faithfully served Davidson as a class agent, class chair, president of the Davidson Alumni Association, member of the Ne Ultra Society and the Wildcat Club, and alumni trustee. He has been a leader in organizing his class's reunions and was also the catalyst behind the creation of the Davidson Medical Alumni Network, a coalition of Davidsonians who serve as sources of valuable information and assistance to students preparing for medical careers. Because you understand the importance of relationships, in your town, the medical community, and the college community; because you know the value of giving back and the value of staying connected; because you provided leadership, wise counsel, and guidance as an alumni trustee and creator of the Davidson Medical Alumni Network; because you demonstrated your faith in Davidson by entrusting her with two of your four children; and because your leadership has inspired others to emulate your own high standard of service, the Alumni Association honors you, William Whitaker Webb, Jr., with its Alumni Service Award on the occasion of your thirty-fifth reunion, April 20, 2002.
