Judith Inge Harris '80
When Judy Inge arrived on campus from Charlottesville, Virginia, her schoolmates saw that she was a dark haired girl with a bright smile. Over the next four years, they observed her talents as a pianist, a drama student, and a cheerleader. Often they could read determination on her face as she, a psychology major, worked toward admission to Phi Beta Kappa and the University of Virginia law school.
Fortunately for the college, her enthusiasm for Davidson and Davidson people carried on after graduation in 1980. After settling in Atlanta with her husband Jeff, also class of 1980, and working in a law practice, she helped with the Annual Fund for many years, co-chaired her class' 10th Reunion, and worked with the Davidson Alumni Admission Program in Atlanta as a member and co-chair for fifteen years. In 1991, her fellow alumni from across the country elected her president of the Alumni Association. During that time she sat on Davidson's Board of Trustees.
The fact that she simultaneously chaired several Atlanta and Georgia bar committees, volunteered for Atlanta Legal Aid, and raised two sons - Walker and Will - with all of the attendant volunteering roles usually filled by young parents, makes her commitment to Davidson more impressive. When others have declined the calls for help from the Alumni Association, she has somehow found the time to devote her considerable talents as an advocate and organizer to enhance the Davidson experience for both its students and alumni.
Because you have delighted in your service to Davidson and encouraged others to do the same; because you inspire others to your same high standard of service; and because you always answer alma mater's call with enthusiasm, the Davidson College Alumni Association proudly honors you, Judith Inge Harris, with the Alumni Service Award on the occasion of the Class of 1980's 20th Reunion, April 29, 2000.
