Charles Walter Patterson '48 (Year Awarded--1998) The quality of Charlie Patterson's involvement as an undergraduate foreshadowed his service to Davidson as an alumnus. With boundless energy, he worked with and for other people as vice president for his senior class, president of the Pan-Hellenic Council, ROTC cadet, member of the YMCA, and representative on the Intrafraternity Council. His contributions were recognized when he was tapped into ODK and named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Throughout his years as an alumus, he has remained interested and involved in all things Davidson. Fellow fans see him regularly at basketball games. Classmates know him for his faithful work on reunion committees over the years…and for his polite solicitations for the Annual Fund. Other alumni knew him as an officer in the Alumni Association. Just as importantly, everyone who has ever met him has been encouraged by his wide smile, reliable enthusiasm, and good cheer. Volunteers such as him bring delight to the alumni body. Because you have worked consistently for alma mater over the decades and because you have appealed to our best instincts as fellow Davidsonians, the Davidson College Alumni Association wishes to thank you, Charles Walter Patterson, and to convey our heartfelt affection with this Alumni Service Award on the occasion of your 50th Reunion.
