Kenneth Durham Weeks, Jr. '69
(Year Awarded--1998)

Often described as Davidson's best cheerleader, K.D. Weeks has stood front and center for Davidson College throughout the past 30 years. With his father K.D. Weeks, Sr., Class of 1935 and daughter Katherine Weeks, Class of 1997, the generations of the Weeks family provide Davidson with loyal and enthusiastic leadership.

While a student at Davidson, K.D. played on the NCAA Golf Team, was a Distinguished Military Student in R.O.T.C., served as a reporter for the Davidsonian and led the cheers for the Top Ten Davidson Basketball Wildcats. After graduation, K.D. earned his M.D. from Duke University Medical School and subsequently served in the United States Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he won numerous commendations in the practice of cardiology.

K.D. continues to work tirelessly on behalf of alma mater. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association and the Davidson Athletic Foundation, and has chaired the Annual Fund for the great class of 1969. Most recently, as National Chair of the 1996-97 Annual Fund, K.D. led the efforts of hundreds volunteers to raise nearly $3,900,000,000 for the Annual Fund. Whether raising money, recruiting new students, lecturing in the Medical Humanities Program, or introducing Davidson students to the medical profession, K.D.'s spirit for life and for our college has been truly infectious.

Because you speak for your college with enormous pride, because you inspire others to your high standard of service, because you encourage and counsel Davidson students at every opportunity, and because you give time, talent, and spirit from the heart, the Davidson College Alumni Association is proud to present to you, Kenneth Durham Weeks, Jr., this Alumni Service Award on the occasion of your 30th reunion.
