Edward Guerrant Lilly, Jr. '48 (Year Awarded--1996) Like others of his generation, Ed Lilly had his day as a Davidson student interrupted by World War II--including twelve months at sea on a carrier in the Pacific. His return began for him a fervor for all things Davidson and a lifetime of sharing his talents and leadership with his alma mater. While pursuing a successful career as officer and director of first a bank and then a power company, Ed found time to serve his college as a trustee and as a hard-working Chair of the Annual Fund, of the Ne Ultra Society, and of the Raleigh regional effort in the Campaign for Davidson. He shared the Davidson experience with his alumnus brother, his alumni father and uncle, and all three of his sons. Because you personify the kind of service to vocation, church, and community which Davidson always hopes to engender in its students, and because you have shared unstintingly of your talents, affection, and substance with Davidson, the Alumni Association presents this Alumni Service Award to you, Edward G. Lilly, Jr., on the occasion of a major gathering of the Davidson family in Raleigh this day.
