With the purchase of a Concert Series subscription package for the discounted price of $70 for the general public and $40 for Davidson faculty, staff, and senior citizens, you'll receive tickets to all six performances, plus free tickets to both the fall and spring Concert Choir performances! We are also now offering a partial subscription package for $40 that contains tickets to any three concerts of your choice.
Jon Nakamatsu, piano September 8, 2012 8 PM Tyler-Tallman Hall, Sloan Music Center
International soloist and winner of the 1997 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medal, Charlotte favorite returns to Davidson with a program of Rameau, Beethoven, Schumann, and a special collaboration with Artistic Director Alan Black, performing Beethoven's Sonata in A Major for Piano and Cello, Op. 69.
Nakamatsu will be appearing thanks to the generosity of the Adams Foundation Piano Series.
Akerman-Teixeira Guitar Duo November 11, 2012 3 PM Tyler-Tallman Hall, Sloan Music Center
Mary Akerman, winner of the Guitar Foundation of America Competition and regular performer at regional colleges and festivals, currently teaches classical guitar at Kennesaw State University. Robert Teixeira lives in Charlotte, N.C. and is a guitar instructor at Davidson College, Queens University of Charlotte, and Central Piedmont Community College. The duo will perform works of Rossini, Scarlatti, Albéniz, Debussy, Bonfá and more!

Phillip Bush & String Quartet January 20, 2013 3 PM Tyler-Tallman Hall, Sloan Music Center
Celebrated pianist and Charlotte native Phillip Bush will collaborate with Rosemary Furniss and Elina Lev on violin, Rebekah Newman on viola and Alan Black on cello to perform Dvorak’s canonical Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81. The exciting program will also include Saint-Saëns Piano Trio No. 1.
Contiguglia Piano Duo February 16, 2013 8 PM Tyler-Tallman Hall, Sloan Music Center
Identical twins Richard and John Contiguglia are among the most acclaimed and versatile piano-duos in the world today. Following their debut, critics described their playing as setting “a new standard for this intimate form of music-making.” Richard and John have performed with major orchestras throughout the world and they have been heard in numerous prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Fresh Ink approaches new music as a living art influenced by the ever-changing world. The group includes Jenny Topilow, violin, John Sadak, clarinet, Mira Frisch, cello, Danny Spiegel, piano, Lindsey Goodman, flute, and Scott Christian, percussion. Fresh Ink focuses on the music of living composers who draw from contemporary ideas and an eclectic sound world to create works that forecast an exciting new direction for concert music.

The illustrious Davidson Trio of violinist Rosemary Furniss, cellist Alan Black, and pianist Dana Protopopescu returns to campus to close this season’s Concert Series. Their program will feature Beethoven’s Piano Trio Op. 1, No. 3, Turina’s Fantasia for piano, violin and cello (“Circulo”), Op. 91, and Brahms’s Piano Trio in C Major, Op. 87, No. 2.

Connecting Crossroads in North Carolina: Daniel Bernard Roumain & Laurelyn Dossett September 29, 2013 8:00 PM Duke Family Performance Hall
“Roumain is an entrancing performer, confident and polished, able to make his richly amplified violin sing, shriek or seduce.” - Chicago Sun Times
Having carved a reputation for himself as an innovative composer, performer, violinist, and band leader, Haitian-American artist Daniel Bernard Roumain melds his classical music roots with his own cultural references and vibrant musical imagination. Singer/songwriter Laurelyn Dossett lives and writes in the piedmont of North Carolina, and her songs tend to reflect the stories of the region, both traditional and contemporary.
As a culminating performance to their week of collaborative work with the Music Department, including the Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Chorale, and other student artists, this particular event will feature student ensembles and new compositions by Daniel and Laurelyn inspired by their time in North Carolina.
