The Davidson Trust (previously Unrestricted Scholarships)

In March 2007, Davidson College became the first liberal arts college in the country to replace loans with grants in all of its financial aid packages, allowing all students to graduate debt-free.  Through this historic initiative, named The Davidson Trust, the college has increased the money it provides for grants in financial aid packages and eliminated mandatory loans.

Gifts to The Davidson Trust provide financial aid for students with demonstrated need, and support Davidson's commitment to replace loans with grants in financial aid packages.

Approximately 15% of each entering class earns merit-based awards ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition. About one-third of each admitted class is eligible for need-based assistance.

Davidson's longstanding policy of need-blind admission can be summed up simply: a student's character and academic potential, not the family bank balance, are the factors considered for admission. We believe this is the surest and fairest way to continue attracting the best all-around students from across the nation and the world to the enduring value of a Davidson education. Gifts to the Annual Fund support this policy.
