Long Term Disability

Policy

The benefits package includes the option to elect payroll deduction for long term disability (LTD) coverage in the event of an accident or illness that causes an employee to be out of work for longer than 6 months. This benefit pays 60% of the employee’s salary while he/she is on LTD.    Employment at Davidson College is terminated after 6 months when the STD benefit ends.  

Eligibility

  • Active, full-time employees who are regularly scheduled to work 37.50 hours or more per week and 12 months per year are eligible to enroll  in this benefit
  • Eligible employees who elect this benefits are covered on the first of the month following 30 days of employment

Policy Details

  • A doctor must certify that the employee is totally unable to return to work.
  • The college's long-term disability insurance carrier must also approve any request for long-term disability.
  • In accordance with the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA), employees leaving the college may be eligible to continue health insurance coverage at their own expense. College contributions to health insurance premiums are discontinued on the last day of employment at Davidson.

Cost

The cost to eligible employees is $0.398 per $100 of annual salary
