Complete the English composition requirement by completing successfully by the end of the first year at Davidson College a course designated as fulfilling the requirement.  Prior to spring 2010, such courses (in a number of academic departments) were designated with a W as part of the course number --e.g., HIS 101W.  Beginning with registration for spring 2010, such courses will be grouped under the Writing Program and designated WRI 101.  The Humanities Program (either the two-year or the one-year program) is an exception; in each instance, the initial two semesters together satisfy the Composition requirement, and the second semester is designated with a W: HUM 151W or HUM 161W. As of spring 2010, the requirement will be satisfied by either (a) an earlier course designated 100W or 101W; (b) a course designated WRI 101; or (c) the second semester (151W or 161W) of Humanities.

Advanced Placement or other credits completed prior to college matriculation do not satisfy the composition requirement.
