German - Placement

German uses a web-based placement test, designed and administered locally.   You must take the test during June before registering for a German course (unless you are a complete beginner with no high school courses in German).   Further information is found on the German web page. Your initial UserID and Password will be your network ID and password; you will find them in the packet sent to you. Note that the user ID here is based on your name; it is not your Davidson ID number.

Students who have AP (score of 4 or 5) or IB (score of 6 or 7) credit for German receive credit for GER 201 and thus have completed the language requirement. They are encouraged to enroll in GER 260 (Introduction to German Cultural Studies) in the fall.

See descriptions of basic German courses or visit the German Department web pages.

Distribution: Several courses in German satisfy the distribution requirement in literary studies, creative writing, and rhetoric; consult the listings on the schedule page.
