During June, consult Prof. Li at lili@davidson.edu for a written test. If you have questions during August, consult Prof. Shao (pishao@davidson.edu)if you have further questions before drop/add. If you have a score of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement test in Chinese, you receive credit for CHI 201, but you should be in touch with Prof. Li or Prof. Shao about your most sensible next step. In all likelihood, you should register for CHI 201 if you have had three or four years of high school Chinese, including one taken during your senior year, but did not score 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement test. Regardless of the class for which you register (unless you are an inexperienced beginner), contact Professor Shao at your earliest convenience.
See descriptions here of the more basic Chinese courses, or visit the Chinese program web page.
Distribution: Many courses in Chinese literature, whether in Chinese or in translation, satisfy the requirement in literary studies, creative writing, or rhetoric. Several satisfy the requirement in cultural diversity as well.
