How To Register

You will submit your course preferences on the Web through a page we call "WebTree."  Since all preferences are processed at once, there is no benefit to entering your preferences early -- except the considerable advantage of avoiding web server traffic jams as the deadline nears.  (For new students registering for the fall semester, that deadline is 11:59 pm Davidson time, June 30.)

To learn more and to register your course preferences, please select from the pages listed at the right:

  • The Quick Method - a quick way to get from what you may have done -- listing courses in preference order -- to the necessary form for WebTree
  • WebTree Explained - a detailed explanation of the logic behind WebTree
  • WebTree Logic (visual) - a picture of WebTree logic
  • WebTree Express - hits only the high spots, but might be helpful
  • WebTree Worksheet - a printable worksheet in "Tree" format, with guide (MS Word format)
  • How To Login - instructions on how to get to and use WebTree to submit your course preferences

Before registering, you will need to use the logic of registration to put your choices in order of priority, taking advantage of one of the strengths of the registration tree: the ability to have specific alternatives to specific course choices.

By now, you probably have some idea of what you want to take and which of your choices is most important to you.  You have realized that often you need to select not just a course, but a specific section of that course. The registration process won't put you in whatever section happens to be open, but gives you the opportunity to choose a time.

The pages linked on the right will help you learn how to put your choices into the "tree" format.  When you go to "WebTree," you'll be asked to enter your choices in four "trees," so named (years ago) because the procedure depends on a tree-and-branch diagram.
