Teaches in the area of early Christianity and has special research interest in Christianity in early Anglo-Saxon England. Publications include Images of Sanctity in Eddius Stephanus' Life of Bishop Wilfrid (Edwin Mellen Press, 1992) and Bede: A Biblical Miscellany (co-authored with Arthur G. Holder; Liverpool University Press, 1999). Member of the American Society of Church History and the North American Patristics Society. Past President of the American Academy of Religion, Southeast Region. At Davidson since 1984.
