Graphing Calculator

Graphing Calculator Requirement for Calculus and Beyond

The Mathematics Department strongly recommends, and Calculus instructors usually require, a graphing calculator with "CAS" (computer algebra system) capability to do symbolic algebra and calculus.  Specifically, the TI-89 or TI-89 Titanium is recommended as the calculator that instructors and tutors are prepared to explain and may demonstrate.  Students with other calculators are expected to find a way to perform hand-held computations equivalent to the TI-89.  A Guidebook for whatever calculator you use will be helpful.  Lower numbered TI calculators do not have the CAS capability and will fall short.  The TI-Nspire CAS calculator (touchpad or clickpad) does have equivalent capability, but only with the added designation of CAS.  (The TI Voyage 200 is also CAS capable but with a larger screen and Qwerty keyboard.)
