Stephen L. Davis

Professor Stephen L. Davis received his B.A. from Lindenwood College and his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. After a postdoctoral appointment at the Ohio State University, Professor Davis joined the Department in 1981. His interests center on abstract algebra, discrete mathematics, and computer science, leading him to spend a year at Swarthmore College as a visiting computer science professor.   He collaborates with Professor Bivens on new editions of the Anton-Bivens-Davis Calculus, has long assisted with the organization of the Charlotte Math Club, and serves on the AP® Calculus Test Development Committee.  He is also webmaster for NCAAPMT, the North Carolina Association of Advanced Placement Teachers of Mathematics.  He has been elected as an MAA (Mathematical Association of America) Governor representing the Southeastern Section for a three-year term 2009-2012.  He is on sabbatical leave from Davidson for the fall 2009 semester.
