Irl C. Bivens

Professor Irl Bivens began teaching at Davidson in 1982 after having received his A.B. degree from Pfeiffer College, his Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill, and an Evans Instructorship at Rice University. His teaching specialties include differential geometry and relativity theory, and he regularly offers a history and problem-solving seminar. The Mathematical Association of America honored Professor Bivens with both the George Pólya Award and the Merten M. Hasse Prize for expository writing in their journals. Professor Bivens has served on the Board of Editors for the College Mathematics Journal, and he collaborates with Professor Davis on new editions of the Anton-Bivens-Davis Calculus.
