The Bonner Scholars Program is a need-based, competitive scholarship opportunity dedicated to the principle that "colleges have vital roles to play in society in nurturing and mobilizing thoughtful, caring, and diverse leadership dedicated to community service." Since its conception in 1990, the Bonner Program has grown to include 74 colleges and universities from around the country. Davidson College has participated in the Bonner Scholars program since 1991, making it one of the longest-running Bonner Scholars programs in the nation. Bonner Scholars at Davidson Eighty Davidson students (twenty students in each incoming class) are chosen to participate in the program, which serves to establish an appreciation of both local and global needs through consistent engagement with a wide variety of community partners. In addition, students meet with advisors and peers to reflect on service experiences, social issues, and their role as positive catalysts for social change.
