Mystical and spiritual, chaotic and confounding, India abounds with riches that invite your personal exploration. Dave Martin, professor of economics, and currently conducting research in India, will be your guide on this journey.
Start the tour in bustling Delhi, the apex of the country's Golden Triangle, where we explore the sights and dine in the homes of urban Indian families. Continue to legendary Jaipur, one of the great cities of the Rajput, known for its pink sandstone buildings.
Search for elusive Bengal tigers and other wildlife at Ranthambore National Park, once a royal hunting ground. Embark on an afternoon camel safari to meet the Meena tribespeople in Kalakho along the banks of seasonal "monsoon" Madhosager Lake. Travel to Agra to visit the sublime Taj Mahal as well as Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, all UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit the evocative Hindu temples at Khajuraho. Witness Hindu pilgrims performing their rituals on the Ganges River in the holy city of Varanasi, where we conclude our exploration of India. A 5-day/4-night post-tour extension to the Himalaya Kingdom of Nepal is available.
