Professor Darian Totten's Book is Published

September 11, 2012

Professor Darian Totten's edited volume, Making Roman Places, Past and Present: Papers Presented at the First Critical Roman Archaeology Conference Held at Stanford University in March, 2008 (Journal of Roman Archaeology Supplement Series, no 89) was published in June 2012. Prof. Totten is co-editor with Kathryn Lafrenz Samuels (Department of Anthropology, NDSU). This volume is a collection of papers that explore "place-making" in the Roman past (with contributions focused on ancient Ephesus, Anatolia, fort sites in Roman Britain and Dura Europos, and imperial villas in Italy), but also how Roman sites and monuments are used to "make-place" for present-day societies (case studies include Tunisia, Cyprus and the European Union). Her own paper on the contemporary uses of Etruscan heritage in Italy appears there. Read more.
