Dr. Christopher Gilliam is the newly appointed Director of Choral Activities at Davidson College. For the past five years he served as Associate Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Voice at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he taught undergraduate and graduate voice, choral arranging, and conducted three choirs: University Singers, Northwestern Lyric, and Concert Choir. Gilliam also served as the Artistic Director for the school’s annual "Christmas Gala" that attracted thousands of children and adults in eight performances each year.
Gilliam is active as a choral clinician and judge. His choirs have been featured in state ACDA and MTNA conventions and toured throughout the United States. Gilliam has served as guest conductor for touring choirs in Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary. In addition, he organized Northwestern State’s first overseas choral tour, where the choir sang in several of England’s most revered concert venues.
A founding member of and soloist for the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers, his performances have been praised as "magnificent" in the Kansas City Metropolis, and the Kansas City Star wrote, "Bass Christopher Gilliam was marvelous, with strikingly rich tone and impeccable diction."
