"In the 45 years since I graduated from Davidson, hardly a day has gone by that I have not thought about my Davidson experience. The preparation that Davidson gave me for my law degree, and the support that the Davidson experience provided during 25 years of private law practice, 10 years in business, and, most importantly, in the challenges of everyday living are all points where Davidson has made, and continues to make, a significant impact in my life. That experience influences and supports my work, my relationships with others, and the person that I am.

Since my graduation, many things have strengthened the ties that were developed while I was on campus. It was most gratifying when both of our daughters (Shelby '93 and Frances '96) chose to attend Davidson. Continued involvement with the local alumni chapter, attendance at numerous reunions, Southern Conference basketball tournaments, having numerous gatherings of alumni and prospective students in our home, and serving on the Board of Visitors for the college-all of these things have contributed significantly to a heartfelt commitment to Davidson, as well as a desire to continue to be involved in college affairs in every way possible to assure that the evolving vision for Davidson under our new president will be developed creatively and with a recognition of the legacy that we all share. What an honor it is to be asked to consider serving on the Board of Trustees."
