Ryan Chiles '12 wins Bremer Award

April 30, 2012

Pascal said: "One never perpetrates evil so completely and so well as when one does so with a clear conscience." In a senior honors thesis on Heinar Kipphardt's play Brother Eichmann, this year's Bremer Award recipient demonstrates the depth of Pascal's claim. Possessing a passion for theater and acting, sophistication in matters of translation theory and practice, a thorough grounding in Bertolt Brecht and documentary theater on the German stage in the twentieth century, and a keen sense of the political power of literature, Ryan Chiles shows us how Pascal's claim holds not only for Kipphardt's Eichmann but also for Eichmann's heirs today.

Congratulations, Ryan! You are in excellent company.
