The Story
During the Campus Master Planning Process in 2009-2010, the College made a commitment to provide more spaces designed specifically for juniors and seniors. At that time, Irwin, Akers, and Knox were identified as potential buildings to renovate for this purpose.
Beginning summer 2012, and continuing through the fall semester, these buildings were transformed through a major renovation process. While the exteriors of the buildings were not change, the interiors were dramatically re-done. In addition to getting all new furniture and updating all of the building's finishes (paint, floors, etc.), the building layouts were altered to promote more community-oriented spaces. Kitchens and study rooms were added, and community amenties such as a computer room, laundry, and interior bike storage / vending were created. Finally, most rooms were converted from small doubles to large single rooms, creating a more ideal rooming environment for upperclass students.
