Sophomore Career Planning Checklist

Select your Major and Explore Career Directions:

Trying to decide on your major and/or career path? Learn more about yourself and what majors and careers might interest you by taking our recommended personality, interests, and skills assessments. Make an appointment with a Career Services adviser to talk through these important decisions.

 

Update WildcatLink:

Log on to WildcatLink, Davidson's job and internship recruiting system, to sign up for career-field specific e-mails or update your areas of interest. Go to your Profile and select the Academic tab to choose these preferences.

 

Strengthen your Resume:

Building a strong resume is key to demonstrating your unique skills and work experience to employers. Get involved on campus and take on leadership roles to make your resume stand out. Stop by walk-in hours or make an appointment to review your resume with a Career Services adviser.

 

Consider Job Shadowing:

Consider shadowing a Davidson alum or parent for one-day over fall or winter break as they go about their day's work. Opportunities will be posted in WildcatLink.

 

Search for Internships:

Employers will want to see internship experience on your resume, and this summer is the perfect time to intern in a field that interests you! Research your options now to make sure you have plenty of time to apply. Opportunities are posted throughout the year on WildcatLink, the Nationwide Internships Consortium, and other databases like Idealist.org and internships.com.

 

Prepare for Interviews:

To get the real scoop on a career path that interest you, set up one or more informational interviews with a recent Davidson grad or another personal contact. When it's time to prepare for an actual interview, check out Interview Stream (accessible through WildcatLink) and practice by yourself in your dorm room, or meet with a career adviser for a a mock interview.
