Wallace Belle "B" Millner '61
(Awarded 2011)

Kate Chopin wrote that, "To be an artist includes much; one must possess many gifts - absolute gifts ..." Wallace Belle "B" Millner has shared many of his "absolute gifts" with alma mater, and it is in recognition of that generosity that Davidson honors him.

B Millner's service to Davidson began in his student days when he was a member of Reach Out/Y Student Service Corps, the editor of the Davidsonian, a member of Beta Theta Pi, an ROTC commissioned officer, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa leadership society. Since his graduation, B's service has multiplied. He has been an Annual Fund Class Agent, member of planning committees for both his 40th and this 50th Reunion, president of the Richmond Alumni Chapter, Chairman of the Board of Visitors, and an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees. An early advocate of environmental studies, he also established the Wallace B. Millner Endowment to provide to Davidson the first resources in support of a growing area of interest to our faculty and students and thus helping to guide Davidson toward an environmental studies academic major.

It is not only Davidson that has benefited from B's tireless efforts. His many community activities have included service on the boards and in leadership roles with the Richmond Symphony, Richmond Symphony Foundation, Family and Children's Services, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Foundation, and the 1708 Gallery, just to name a few of the causes B has championed.

B Millner is also an amazingly talented sculptor, using bronze to bring to life waterfowl, horses, and the human anatomy. He sketches, he paints, and he has even completed a mural in an Italian castle.

B, Davidson thanks you for sharing your "many gifts - absolute gifts" with the college that you love. For your unwavering support and dedication to alma mater, the Davidson College Alumni Association is proud to honor you, Wallace Belle Millner III, with the Alumni Service Award.
