James David DuPuy '96

Three-hundred and eighty-four Davidson College seniors graduated on the morning of May 19, 1996. Many of those same people are here today, including James David DuPuy. During his years as a student, JD served as an Honor Council solicitor, Hall Counselor, and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership President. He joined Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a leader in the Class of 1996.

Since that Sunday morning 15 years ago, JD has gone on to earn his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has worked for over a decade at Ruff, Bond, Cobb, Wade, & Bethune. He and his wife, Cherie, have two beautiful daughters, Catherine and Anna. Yet, in all this time and with all these accomplishments, JD's commitment to Davidson has never taken a back seat. It has only deepened.

JD was a history major at Davidson, so one might assume that he's got a good head for dates. Let's see how many of these dates he remembers.

August 24, 1992. The day most of your classmates sat in their first class at Davidson.

April 28 through 30, 2006. The dates of your 10th Reunion, which JD helped plan as a Reunion co-chair.

September 11, 2001. The morning of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks-just two days before you returned to campus to celebrate your 5th Reunion. Many of you were here that weekend remembering your time as Davidson students, but also supporting each other in a time tragedy. JD was a Reunion co-chair that year, as well.

1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2008. The nine years that JD served as an Annual Fund Class Chair and sent hundreds of letters and made dozens of phone calls, asking you for your financial support of Davidson. You all might remember that!

June 4, 2011. That's today. And we hope that it will be another date that JD will remember.

JD, your gifts of time, energy, and infectious enthusiasm have set an example for all Davidsonians. For your faithful and willing support of Davidson College in the years since your graduation, and in all the years to come, the Davidson College Alumni Association is proud to honor you, JD DuPuy, with the Alumni Service Award.
