Motion planning and graph layout meet at the crossroads of geometry, discrete mathematics, and algorithm design. In this talk, we will review results on layout and reconfiguration properties of paths and cycles whose edge lengths are fixed. Then we will consider results on representing graphs by binary geometric relations, namely, visibility and proximity. Finally, we will illustrate graph drawing principles in the context of micromanufacturing technology. And of course, mention open problems along the way.

The talk is intended for a general audience and open to the public.
