In compliance with 45 CFR 46, Davidson College has established formal policies and procedures to safeguard the rights and welfare of individuals who participate as subjects in research. Projects that include a human subjects component must receive formal review and approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to proposal submission. Individuals should allow sufficient time for IRB review, and if necessary, protocol revision prior to proposal submission. In no case will research projects be allowed to commence without Board review and approval. After the principal investigator receives formal approval of the research protocol from the IRB, the Grants and Contracts Office prepares a "single project assurance" for inclusion in the proposal. For more information on human subjects research see Human Subjects IRB. For protocol forms seehttp://www2.davidson.edu/academics/gc/gc_forms/hsirb_protocol.dot. Questions may be addressed to Dr. Mark Smith, IRB Chair.
