Math Coffee: "Processing Processing" Annie Temmink ‘11

When: February 03, 2011   6:45 pm -  7:45 pm

Where:  Room 3146 ,   Chambers Building

Speaker:  Annie Temmink ‘11

Ticket Required: No

Last semester I investigated Processing in an independent study with Dr. Chartier. Processing is an open source coding language based in Java that is designed to be easy to use for making images and animations. While it is simple to begin using, Processing also has over 100 libraries and many options for more in-depth OOP programming. In my independent study I used Processing as a means to begin learning OOP and as a way to explore the potential for crossover between Math and Art. In this math coffee I will give an overview of Processing, including some of its similarities with Java, and I will give an informal workshop on getting started using processing. I will also show some of the images I created in my independent study and talk about some of the interesting projects that have been created using Processing.

We will gather in Math Hall at 6:30 PM for our traditional light snacks.
