Latin America is one of the world's major regions, given its rich history (and prehistory), long literary tradition, multiple cultures, and complex political and economic systems. It is a key focus for understanding contemporary issues of migration, borders, development and sustainability, and power hierarchies, especially given the complex ties binding the US to the region. Majors benefit from a structured interdisciplinary approach to Latin America that highlights the region-specific expertise of Davidson faculty across the curriculum. This major offers students the tools to conceptualize the region as a whole in order to engage in critical comparisons of cultures, to integrate Latin America's past into the evaluation of its present, and to problem-solve contemporary issues.
