November 02, 2010

Pommersheim
 Hannah Pommersheim '11

The senior recipient is a Belk Scholar from Vermillion, S. Dak., majoring in political science.

For the past 3 years, she has been involved with Engage for Change, a student-led initiative designed to unite the student body and engage in discourse regarding social change efforts. This year, she serves as their chair leading efforts around Economic Opportunity.

She is also the student representative on the strategic implementation team that is examining the College's graduation requirements and has hosted focus groups with students to ensure that their perspectives are represented throughout the process.

This past summer she served as a Stapleton/Davidson intern in Charlotte, working with women recovering from the disease of addiction at the Charlotte Rescue Mission, and with Homeless Helping Homeless, a program that empowers homeless neighbors to advocate for their rights. Her compassionate, straightforward manner, her quiet, but stead resolve is an inspiration to all those around her.

She has also been involved with other leadership roles on campus including involvement with the SGA, Leadership Davidson and the ODK Honor Society.

It is for your compassionate concern for others exemplified by your numerous actions, leadership by example, humility, and care for those less fortunate that has allowed you to rise to the top of your class as the most deserved senior recipient of the Goodwin Exxon Award
