Dr. Cain has a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate students. His interests include teaching both standard and innovative courses, laboratories, developing lecture demonstrations and introducing undergraduate students to research in order to increase their learning experience. He received his B.S. in Physics graduating magna cum laude from Wake Forest University, his M.S. and in Ph.D. Physics from University of Virginia at Charlottesville. His research interests include the measurement and calculation of the elastic, mechanical, optical, and defect properties of solids through the use of ultrasonic, spectroscopic, and ionic conductivity techniques. This includes the measurement of elastic constants of solids; the measurement of optical properties of insulating crystals; and the measurement of ionic conductivity to determine the formation and migration energies of defects in solids.
