Pam Hay’s undergraduate degree is a BA in Biology from Hendrix College. She received MS in Botany and Bacteriology from the University of Arkansas followed by a PhD in Botany, with a minor in Biochemistry from NCSU. Her PhD research focused on the senescence of wheat leaves, specifically on the effects to photosynthesis. She then completed a two year post-doc at the University of Missouri working on the isolation and characterization of pea chloroplast pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. This was followed by a one year post-doc at the University of Dayton working on the allocation of photosynthetic products to differ plant parts. Dr. Hay came to Davidson in 1984,where she worked on the development of corn seed proteases during germination. She has also done projects with students looking at antimicrobial activity of plant products. Currently her research interests are in the areas of plant products that potentially have antimicrobial activity, nutrition, and in the education of students of the importance of protecting the environment and the diversity of plants.
