Carl Yerger joins math faculty

Carl Yerger headshotCarl Yerger will be joining the Department of Mathematics at Davidson as an Assistant Professor starting this fall 2010.  Currently, Carl is completing a doctorate at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization.  He holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a B.S. in Mathematics with a humanities concentration in Economics from Harvey Mudd College.  Yerger has co-authored a number of papers in his field, starting with research as an undergraduate, at Harvey Mudd and in summer REU programs, and continuing with collaborations through graduate school, including an internship at the National Institute for Informatics in Tokyo Japan.  Among his awards include a Barry M. Goldwater scholarship and a Winston Churchill Foundation scholarship.  When not in the classroom, Carl has served in student government and organized High School math competitions.  He also enjoys playing bridge and competing in a variety of sports, including tennis, bowling and korfball.

This fall, Professor Yerger will be teaching MAT 220, Combinatorics and Graph Theory, and CSC 321, Analysis of Algorithms.  We look forward Carl Yerger's contributions to Davidson, both in and out of the classroom!
