Matthew Ashley Terrell '90
In his application for admission to Davidson College, a young Matt Terrell proclaimed, "I feel it is my obligation and my privilege to contribute to a community which I am sure will benefit me in many ways."
Matt knew himself well. As a student, he studied history and was a member of Kappa Sigma, and in his work with the Union Board, especially chairing the Concert Committee, he made endless contributions to the community he had joined. For his participation and leadership, Matt received the C. Shaw Smith Award for Outstanding Service to the Community through the College Union.
After graduating from Davidson in 1990, Matt pursued a master's in sports management at the University of Richmond, then began a career in higher education at the University of North Carolina Educational Foundation. Fate brought him back to Davidson in 1993, when he arrived as assistant director of Alumni Relations-just in time to reconnect with a certain brainy brunette from his college days. Matt convinced Kat Huster, Class of 1989, to be his bride, and now they are proud parents of two darling daughters.
Matt's career continued to advance, with positions at East Tennessee State University and SMU, and he returned as Associate Director of Development in 2001. Today, he is director of external operations for the Rams Club at UNC-mixing a little Carolina Blue in with his red and black.
Throughout the years, Matt has continued to contribute to his Davidson community as an involved and loyal alumnus, serving as a class chair for the Annual Fund, as a co-president with Kat for the Tri-Cities Alumni chapter in East Tennessee, as class secretary for the great Class of 1990, and as one of the planning chairs for his 20th Reunion.
For your personal and professional accomplishments these past 20 years, and because you have always been a ready-and-willing Wildcat, freely offering your time, boundless energy, and leadership, the Davidson College Alumni Association honors you, Matthew Ashley Terrell, with the Alumni Service Award.
