Special Competition Scholarships

Special Competition Scholarship candidates are selected by the Davidson Admission and Financial Aid staff, the Director of Merit Programs, and the Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.  Finalists participate in selection interviews on campus in April.

Special Competition Scholarships are annually renewable, provided the recipient earns a minimum 3.0 grade point average, makes standard progress toward his or her degree, and is involved significantly in the life of the Davidson community.


Thompson S. and Sarah S. Baker Scholarship
Annual Award Amount:
 Comprehensive cost (tuition, fees, room and board -- valued at $45,030 in 2009-10)) and two $2500 summer stipends
Number Awarded: Two in each first-year class
Eligibility: Students whose academic and personal accomplishments mark them as capable of the highest achievement

Missy and John Kuykendall Scholarship
Annual Award Amount:
$15,000
Number Awarded: Two in each first-year class
Eligibility: Students who will provide the kind of servant leadership that characterized the presidency of John W. Kuykendall, Davidson Class of 1959

Presidential Awards
Annual Award Amount:
$5,000 to $20,000
Number Awarded: Varies
Eligibility: Students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership and will contribute diverse cultural or socioeconomic perspectives to the classroom and to campus life

Snider Scholarship Program
Annual Award Amount: Full cost of attendance (room, board, tuition, fees, spending allowance for books, travel, personal expenses)
Number Awarded: Two in each first-year class
Eligibility: Students of significant personal, academic and community  accomplishment with established financial need; preference is given to students from populations under-represented in the Davidson student body

William Holt Terry Scholarship
Annual Award Amount: $15,ooo and one $750 summer stipend
Number Awarded: Two in each first-year class
Eligibility: Students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills and personal qualities through student government, athletics, service, or other activities
