The title of his talk, "I Wrote the Story of Abraham and Isaac": Reading Genesis 22 in the 20th-Century.

The author of Stories of Scottsboro (1994, Pulitzer Prize Finalist) and Blackout (2003), Dr. Goodman is especially interested in methodological questions concerning narrative, storytelling, and the relationship between history and fiction. With Stories of Scottsboro, as one reviewer notes, Dr. Goodman invented "a new way of writing history." His current research considers how the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac has been revised and rewritten over the centuries, although his Kelley Lecture will focus upon its use in twentieth-century America.
