Haiti, Cuba and the American Experience

George Lamming has an impressive résumé as a renowned poet, novelist, essay writer, orator, lecturer, teacher, editor, activist, cultural critic and statesman. Currently a Visiting Professor and writer-in-residence of Africana Studies and Creative Writing at Brown University, Lamming will be visiting Davidson on November 19th to deliver a lecture on his expertise on the United States' long and complicated relationship with the Caribbean region. Lamming will dispel the stereotype of the Caribbean region as simply a place for revelry and revolution, instead emphasizing the significant impact the region has had on the United States since the Spanish-American War in 1898.
