The Department of Hispanic Studies

The primary mission of the Hispanic Studies Department is to teach the language, literatures, and cultures of the Hispanic world. Intermediate, and advanced level courses provide a learning experience conducive to mastering linguistic skills, developing critical thinking and cultural analysis, to reach a profound understanding of the uniqueness of the context in which Spanish, Latin American, and U. S. Latino literary and cultural expressions emerge, and thrive within a global context.

For questions or comments regarding the Hispanic Studies Department, please contact the chair, Dr. Kyra Kietrys  Beginning August 1, 2012 Dr. Kyra Kietrys will be on sabbatical.   The acting chair will be Dr. Samuel Sanchéz y Sanchéz.


HIGHLIGHTS
The Upcoming Visit of Fernando Operé
Fernando Operé will appear on campus on Thursday April 4th in the Sprinkle Room of the College Union. "La vuelta al mundo en 80 poemas," a presentation accompanied by a recitaltion of poems from his newest collection. He is a poet and Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies.
Semester Program in Madrid
The Department announces a semester-long program in Madrid projected to begin in Spring'14.
