Housing Assignments:

Incoming first-year students are paired together and placed on a residence hall by Residence Life.  All residence hall rooms assigned to first-year students are double rooms, so every incoming first-year student will have a roommate.

Roommate matches: While students do have the option of self-selecting a first-year roommate, most incoming students are paired by the Residence Life staff.  Davidson takes extraordinary care in pairing first-year roommates, taking into account such things as:

• Personal interests / Hobbies
• Sleep schedule
• Roommate preferences
• Myers-Briggs Type

On average, 35-40% of Davidson students choose to remain with the same roommate for sophomore year. Many who don't will live with one of their first-year hallmates.  In one recent year, as many as 80% of seniors chose to share an apartment with their first-year roommate.

Returning students select their own rooms for the upcoming academic year during the room selection process that is held each spring semester.

First-Year Housing:

During the 2012-2013 school year, all first-year students reside in one of four residence halls: Belk, Cannon, Richardson or Watts. Below are links to each of these facilities with approximate room dimensions and amenities.

Belk
Located on Dorm Row, Belk houses both first-year and upper-class students. Belk received new flooring and paint in summer 2011.  The approximate room dimensions for Belk are - 15'6" length x 10' width.

Cannon
Located on Dorm Row next to Sentelle Hall, Cannon houses only first-year students. Several  floors in Cannon are regularly designated for sub-free housing. Cannon was extensively renovated during summer 2009. The approximate room dimensions for Cannon are - 17'8" length x 13' 8" width.

Richardson
Located adjacent to Vail Commons, Richardson houses only first-year students. Two floors in Richardson are sometimes designated for sub-free housing. Richardson was renovated during summer 2008. The approximate room dimensions for Richardson are - 16'11" length x 9'7" width.

Watts
Located on Dorm Row next to Little Hall, Watts houses only first-year students. Watts was recently renovated during summer 2008. The approximate room dimensions for Watts are - 17'8" length x 13' 8" width.

Room Rates
