Essential Items:  Towels, pillow, laundry bags, blanket(s), wastebasket. The College Laundry supplies a mattress cover, sheets (only flat sheets) and pillow cases (included in the laundry fee). Safety rails for lofted beds are available from RLO.

Things to Bring or Purchase Locally:

• Surge protectors with a cord of AT LEAST 14 gauge*
• Bedspread (extra-long twins, mattress size 36"x80", 8 inches deep)
• Lamp (for desk or bed)
• Desktop Computer/Laptop
• Radio/Stereo
• DIGITAL television
• Refrigerator (limit is 6 cubic ft, one per room)
  In order to reduce the use of electricity, Davidson College endorses the use of the Energy Star rated Microfridge product.  This is a special refrigerator/freezer and microwave oven combination appliance that is available to Davidson College students through Standards for Living.  Please visit their website to learn more about how students may purchase or rent a Microfridge.  Standards for Living will deliver your unit to your room just prior to your arrival on campus in the fall.

*With wire gauge, the LOWER the number, the safer the wire.  Therefore, a 12 gauge wire can carry more electricity safely than a 14 gauge.  Any use of extension cords over 14 gauge presents a serious fire hazard in residence halls. Extension cords should NOT be placed around the sink area or where they will be walked over or stepped on.
