Hometown: Monroe, N.C. Davidson Trusted Her Her parents encouraged Glaser’s independence in the college decision-making process. Personal attention from an admission and financial aid counselor rounded out her confidence in choosing Davidson. “Since it’s the rest of my life, my mom let me handle it, and because the counselor helped me so much at the beginning, I knew I was going to have enough financial aid to be able to come. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for The Davidson Trust.” The Freshman Hall Experience She opted for a “sub-free” hall with like-minded first-year students who eschew drugs and alcohol in living quarters. A highlight has been the Third Rich (Richardson Residence Hall) intramural flickerball team—coached by the Davidson Wildcats men’s basketball team. So, did the hallmates bond in anticipation of lifelong friendships, like it says in the viewbook? Pretty much: “We’re all dreading next year, because we know we’re going to be separated.” It’s Academic The adjustment from high school to college meant some new work habits. “It’s not harder than I expected, but… it was a while before I realized I was not doing the work I needed to be doing to get the grades I wanted to get. I’m not exactly where I want to be, but I’m not where I was, and I’m learning. The library is my new best friend, and my best study tactic is time.” Leadership and Service A run for Student Government Association won her a post as independent freshman senator. “Between winning the election and my newfound work ethic, I finally feel like a true, successful Davidson student.” Study Abroad Glaser is leaning toward Davidson in England, Cambridge University over the Classics Spring Semester Abroad. That’s partly to honor her homebody nature—the classics semester is more suitcase living than ultimately appeals to her—and partly to honor her growing love of English literature. On British Literature Since 1800 with Suzanne Churchill and Literary Analysis with Onita Vaz-Hooper: “They’re really good at digging in!”
