Here are some of the recognitions earned in mathematics by Davidson students during academic year 2008-2009, above and beyond the degrees earned by 16 senior mathematics majors. Annual Departmental Awards The William G. McGavock Mathematics Award to an outstanding senior for promise and accomplishment in mathematics: James O. (Jim) Dickson '09. The William Vinson Mathematics Award to a rising junior for mastery and promise in mathematics: Mali Zhang '11. Mathematical Contest in Modeling -- the international competition solving open-ended applied problems in mathematics with one weekend of research and write-up. Five Davidson teams competed out of 1675 teams of which only 21% are from the U.S. Three teams were awarded Meritorius distinction, given to the top 18%.
G. Marcil, N. Paulinelli, T. Sieracki – problem B -- Meritorious AJ Ferguson, S. Simpson, B. Holloway – problem B -- Meritorious C. Henderson, M. Williams, M. Win – problem A -- Meritorious Math Horizons, the undergraduate mathematics magazine of the Mathematical Association of America. has chosen Adam Lewicki '11 to the Student Advisory Board to work with the new editors. Fellowships and Scholarships for graduate study by mathematics majors - Jim Dickson: has received a full scholarship for the Ph.D. program in the Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech.
- Tiffany Mumby: has received an award for the M.S. program in accounting at Wake Forest Univeristy.
