President Ross Addresses Community Regarding Flu

April 28, 2009

Dear Members of the Davidson College Community:

As you know, in recent days there have been reports of an outbreak of swine flu in Mexico and several states in the U.S. There are possible cases in several other states, including North Carolina, but at this time there are no confirmed cases in North Carolina.

There is no indication that the swine flu has been seen in Davidson. However, we are continually monitoring postings from the CDC, the WHO, and state and local health departments, and we will contact you again with new information if the situation changes. While this is a critical concern nationally and internationally, there is no indication that Davidson is affected; this is a time for awareness, but it is not a time for alarm.

The CDC has posted several recommendations about steps we all can take to stay healthy and minimize the risk of infection. These recommendations, along with related information about international travel, are available on the Student Health Service pages of our Website.

Thanks for taking this information seriously. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Tom Shandley, vice president for student life and dean of students, or a member of the Student Health Service staff.

My best,

Tom Ross
President
